Hong Kong's Fortresses Equipped with Wi-Fi |
|
|
Asia is the land of electronics, and in Hong Kong, the places to buy them are Fortress stores. The chain is recognized as much for its warranties (unusual in China) as its big orange signs. You'll find everything from cell phones to rice cookers, and even—iPass Wi-Fi. Fifteen new stores joined the iPass Wi-Fi network this month, bringing the total to more than 40 iPass-enabled Fortress stores throughout the region. Here are some of the flagship Fortress stores and the sights to see nearby.
-
Causeway Bay — You can shop till you drop in this area, with rents as high as New York's Fifth Avenue. Check out the huge branch of Sogo, the Japanese department store, as well as the Times Square shopping center, where Fortress is located. Don't miss the Noonday Gun cannon salute which fires every day!
-
Central — The Central business district includes Government Hill and two Fortress stores, on Queen's and Des Voeux Roads. It's the heart of Colonial Hong Kong, with many major tourist sites and most of the top hotels.
-
Mong Kok — Fortress has three stores in this district of Kowloon, one of the most densely populated districts on earth. It's the place to wander around, sample the street food, find the souvenir shops and soak in the atmosphere.

But you'll get more than just coffee at this growing chain of 50 restaurants—they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, with an emphasis on casual entrees like tortilla wraps, grilled sandwiches, pastas and salads, a variety of ice cream flavors (its original claim-to-fame) and even hi-speed Internet access. You can now choose from more than 16 locations in the iPass network to keep you connected long after your caffeine buzz kicks in. Get your buzz on, the local way.

Your Wireless Home-away-from-Home at Archstone |
|

|
If a permanent telework situation or extended assignment has your hotel concierge greeting you by name, it may be time to consider more homely accommodations. Archstone operates dozens of upscale apartment buildings in key business locations around the US, mainly on the East and West Coasts. All offer flexible lease terms for mobile executives, which can be conveniently researched and rented online. For an added touch, Archstone is adding iPass access points to its properties—more than 30 buildings are part of the network already in the Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay areas, as well as Boston, New York and Washington D.C. Home is where the heart is, but having Wi-Fi doesn't hurt either!
